Plan Ahead

Book your meeting space and any required supplies as early as possible so that you know for a fact that you have everything you need. This will help avoid delays that may increase costs and ruin your case’s momentum. If something happens and you require a new venue or special equipment, try to make the request 48 hours in advance so arrangements can be made to accommodate you. 

Speak Clearly

When conducting your deposition, make sure your witnesses speak clearly, confidently, and avoid unnecessary, indistinguishable sounds in place of answers. Make sure terminology, proper names, and unusual industry jargon is well-articulated. By ensuring everyone speaks clearly, you are helping your court reporter make the transcript as accurate as possible and eliminating time spent on editing. 

Provide a List of Key Words and Phrases

If your case involves a number of words or names that may cause spelling errors or grammatical issues, provide your court reporter a list of these important words and phrases. As a result, the court reporter will be able to produce an accurate transcript the first time and avoid time wasted after the deposition when the reporter has to ask questions about what was said.

Dress Appropriately

Dressing for success can made a difference in your case. Avoid attire that is ill-fitting and too casual. Advise your witnesses to dress in professional suits, slacks, or dresses that detract attention from the case at hand, and take that advice yourself.
